Athens unexpected
For a few months, Renee and I were planning to fly to Greece to do some DTS staff training with the International DTS Centre folks (who would be at that time training the staff on the YWAM boat the Next Wave, currently docked outside of Athens).
Recently, however, this event was suddenly cancelled.
We’d already bought the plane tickets in January in anticipation of rising plane ticket fares. As we booked with mainly budget airlines, the tickets were mostly non-refundable. However, we were encouraged by our base leader, Jonny, to not let perfectly good tickets go to waste and to try to take a ‘long weekend’ type trip. Doing some more research, we found we were able to change the date with the airline who controlled our return flights even though we couldn’t get a refund, which would make this sort of trip possible (the original trip was over a week).
I think my body is willing to take a few days (we leave Saturday, by the way), but my mind is still preoccupied with work and all of the things I could be doing here and won’t be able to do, even if I try to bring it with me. As well, I hope the ‘travel-hang out-travel back’ nature of this trip won’t leave us more tired than before we left. I don’t think so, though. God is good, and we’re definitely extremely thankful.
